Quiet

I know I've been pretty quiet here for the past month or so, but some crazy things happened this month and it took awhile to wrap my head around them. Jonathan was doing really well with his job at IBM and suddenly found out that they weren't able to approve the funding for his contract to continue past the 31st of January. We were stunned and unsure what was going to happen next. Jonathan quickly got his resume posted and called a few headhunters that had called him after he started working with IBM. He had a job interview the same week for an android developing job. It was kind of a weird job because they would train him and then find contracts for him for the next two years. We would be nomadic and so he kept looking while keeping this as our plan B if nothing else turned up.

I snuck a photo of him during his interview.
We weren't sure how things were going to work out, but we knew that they would. About a week or so later, he was contacted by Home Depot. They are looking to hire 100+ people for software development jobs in their Austin and Atlanta offices. He had an over the phone interview that he felt went well. Then he was invited to go to an in-person group interview at their office here in Austin. They made it clear in the interview that they weren't competing against each other because they have a lot of jobs to fill, but they wanted to see how they would work together in a group. From Jonathan's description of it, he was simply amazing. He kept the group on track and was able to show potential security flaws in the code that the others weren't able to pick up on. After the interview was over, he was told that he would hear from them either Wednesday (Valentine's Day) or Thursday morning. Wednesday was a rather tense day for both of us. We didn't talk about getting the phone call, but we both wanted it to happen. Unfortunately, the call didn't come. The next morning we were relaxing on the couch and then the phone call came.

He got a job and they were impressed with his technical skills that he showed during the group interview. We were so relieved and excited. Though it wasn't clear if we were staying in Austin or moving to Atlanta, we were thrilled that Jonathan was once again employed. He started filling out paperwork and was given March 5th as his official start date. This past Monday, he got more information about his job. His is a software engineer and he found out what team he is working on (I don't remember...). He will be working here in Austin. (Jonathan is incredibly relieved that we won't be moving again!) They have his first few days planned out and his work laptop and smartphone are already ready for him. It was the perfect anniversary present for us!

While we weren't expecting to go through this, we stayed calm and knew that things would work out because we had faith as well as continued to work to find a new job. I am so glad that we get to continue to call Austin our home and for the opportunities that are here for us.
